"Do not fail to learn from the pure voice of an ever-flowing mountain stream splashing over the rocks."

Morihei Ueshiba O Sensei

This is one of many beautiful quotes from O Sensei. Being a martial art, Aikido students are often confused about O Sensei's references to nature. How does a flowing stream relate to Aikido? And what does the sound of water splashing have to do anything?

As my sensei, Chang Shihan, would often tell us; Aikido movements are based on natural movements. The student who comes into Aikido begins to learn how to move in a natural way all over again; this time, while applying Aikido technique. Think about the quote and let yourself imagine what O Sensei may be saying. Then observe and practice in the dojo to experience the meaning of O Sensei's words.

In harmony
Rafael Sensei.
